North Providence was established as Part of Providence originally. However, in 1765 a group of farmers in a more remote part of Providence wanted to break off from the more merchant orientated oversight of Providence.
North Providence is the smallest town in Rhode Island today and maintains somewhat of a suburban feel with many amenities of city life not far away.
